Out of Our Comfort Zones and Into the Mission Field

Acts 1:8 (NIV) But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

I’ve always loved adventure. Whether it’s writing historical fiction set in turbulent times or traveling across the country to equip children’s ministers, I’ve found that following God often leads me into places I never expected. But recently, He’s been stirring something deeper in my spirit, a call that’s both exciting and a little bit dangerous.

A week ago, I felt the Lord nudging me toward a new ministry opportunity. It wasn’t in a church or a conference center. It was in an improvised neighborhood where children face poverty, violence, and broken homes daily. These kids aren’t just underserved, they’re unseen. And yet, God sees them. He loves them. And He’s calling me to bring His light into their world.

I’ll be honest, my first reaction was a nudging fear. What if it’s not safe? What if I’m not equipped? What if I fail? This challenge is bigger than I am.

God doesn’t always give us the full picture. He gives us a step. And when we take that step in faith, He meets us there.

This new ministry will involve kid’s crusades in the projects and building relationships in places where hope feels scarce. It’s not comfortable. But it’s exactly where the Gospel is needed most.

If you’re reading this, I want to challenge you: What is God calling you to do that feels uncomfortable? Maybe it’s sharing your faith with a neighbor. Volunteering in a ministry that stretches you. Or even starting something new that scares you.

Whatever it is, don’t let fear hold you back. Pray. Listen. And take that first step.

Call to Action:
Spend time in prayer this week. Ask God where He wants you to go—who He wants you to reach. Then, be willing to step out of your comfort zone. The Gospel was never meant to stay inside the church walls. It was meant to go into the streets, the homes, and the hearts of those who need it most.
