My pastor, Matt Couther at Woodlawn Church, preached a great sermon on staying in God’s will. It’s important to know when to move on and when to hold your ground. It can be the difference between staying and fighting and being out of God’s will because it’s time to leave or leaving too soon and being out of God’s will.
Here’s some keys to staying in God’s will:
Adversity in not always a sign we’re out of God’s will. Sometimes it’s a sign that we are in God’s will. Spiritual warfare often happens right before a breakthrough. While sometimes troubles come because we’ve been in a place too long, most of the time, people quit too soon. Trouble is not a reason for quitting.
Trust God. Sometimes God will tell us to do things that don’t make sense. We can measure the pros and cons in our decision and know what the logical thing to do is, but if God says it, do it His way even if it doesn’t make sense. Trust God that He knows what He is doing.
Acknowledge God in every decision. Don’t make a decision that goes against God’s Word even if you can justify it. Pray until you have assurance that you’re doing what God wants.
Let the peace of God be your guide. Sometimes everything looks right, but you don’t feel right about it. That may be God telling you that it isn’t right. Follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, and you will feel peace in your spirit.
