I have read every Patrick Bowers series novel written by Steven James and loved them all. I looked forward to The King’s release and was not disappointed. I loved it. I enjoyed the theme about how following your heart instead of restraining the evil within causes us to go down the wrong path. And I loved how Tessa worked through the meaning of life while working on a graduation speech.

This novel is a little different that the other though. The other Bowers novels had mysteries to solve about who the bad guys were. In The King, we knew almost from the beginning that Patrick Bowers would be fighting the most evil villains he had ever faced in previous novels, Richard Basque and Valkyrie. Even though there was no mystery to solve, the suspense was ratcheted up even more as Patrick fought to save the people he loved the most. The only thing I didn’t like was that it ended too soon. I can’t wait for Steven James’ next Bowers novel.
