2014 Reader Survey Results

Here’s the results of my Word Sharpeners Readers’ Survey.

Gender: 75 % of the readers of my blog are women. 25% are men. It didn’t surprise me that most of my readers are women, but it did surprise me that there were such a high percentage of men who regularly read my blog.

Age Groups: The age groups were across the board although the 45-54 age group was the largest at 38.46 %. At 15.38% were 25-34, 35-44, and 55-64. 7.69% were 65-74 or 75 and older. Apparently nobody below the age of 25 reads my blog.

Relationship Status: People who read my blog are overwhelmingly married. I only had two people respond who weren’t. One was single, the other widowed.

Religious Views: Almost everyone who reads my blog are committed Christians who go to church, read their Bible, and pray. Two people gave answers that they were not Bible believing Christians. One of those checked that they were from another religion. the other had his own viewpoint about religion.

Movies: My readers mostly enjoy action adventure and classic movies (23.08% each), but they also enjoy comedies (15.38%), romances (7.69%), documentaries (7.69%), and thrillers (7.69%). Nobody listed musicals, dramas, or horror films on their list of favorites.

Favorite Books: The reading tastes of my readers are pretty eclectic. Tying at first place were any Christian fiction, suspense thrillers, historical fiction, romance and non-fiction. Second place went to women’s fiction.

Hobbies: Every person who answered my survey listing reading as one of their hobbies making it the number one answer. Here are the other answers in order: writing (76.92%), traveling (61.54%), watching classic movies (46.15%), decorating (38.46%), arts and crafts (30.77%), healthy lifestyles and exercise (30.77%), cooking (23.08%), and shopping (23.08%). One person wrote in gardening.

Kinds of Posts You Like: It seems I am right on target on the kinds of posts I write. The topics you liked the most were writing & marketing tips, organization and self-help, top 10 lists, guest author posts, devotionals, American history, church history, and info about my books. Family and lifestyle got 25% of the votes and travel got 16.67 even though it was listed as one of the hobbies most of you enjoyed. With this question, I’m also taking into consideration the kinds of posts that get the largest hits.

What this means: Thanks to everyone who took this survey. After looking at the results, I might be more deliberate about writing posts that help married people, but I’m still going to post on a variety of subjects that you enjoy. That seems to be what Word Sharpers readers enjoy about my blog.
