Meet Max Jacobs, one of these discarded heroes, as he faces a wall of failure—in his career, his friendships, and his marriage. Failing again—this time to end his life—he is offered a thread of hope. My Review: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
There’s a lot of great things going on in this novel. Ronie Kendig gets us into the skin of a discarded military hero, Max Jacobs, who is suffering from PTSD and is racked with guilt over his marriage that he has destroyed through his violent outbursts. The novel had me on the edge of my seat as his wife, Sydney, who loves her husband but doesn’t know how to help him, throws herself into her journalism career to find out the truth about a mercenary terror fighting organization called Nightshade. When she finds out her husband is a part of it, he risks his life to rescue her from danger.
The only reason I didn’t give this novel 5 stars is I felt the physical abuse was not dealt with enough. It was basically swept under the rug after the initial break-up. There was mention of counseling, but that was it. But I still enjoyed this novel very much. It’s great to see CBA branching out into action/adventure.
