Word Sharpener News: This week is Holy Week. It’s also the last week Pelican Book Group Site is giving away all of their e-books for free. It ends Easter Day. One of the books available is my e-book, A Christmas Promise. Although A Christmas Promise is technically a Christmas story, it is about a missionary couple in Ohio ministering to Lenape Native Americans and would be a great read for Easter also. Here’s a little more about it.

A Moravian Holiday Story, circa 1773

During colonial times, John and Anna settle in an Ohio village to become Moravian missionaries to the Lenape. When John is called away two days before Christmas to help at another settlement, he promises he’ll be back by Christmas Day.

When he doesn’t show up, Anna works hard to not fear the worst while she provides her children with a traditional Moravian Christmas.

Through it all, she discovers a Christmas promise that will give her the peace she craves.

This week, I’ve been editing my novel, Lost in the Storm, about a journalist who must get an interview with an illusive Civil War captain or her career is over. But the hero captain won’t budge because he has something to hide. I’m also working on a children’s church curriculum called Building Foundations.

I’m going to church on Saturday night, this Easter. Our church is having this special time to make room for visitors on Easter Sunday. My family is having our Easter meal at my mom’s house. I hope you all have a blessed Holy Week.

Tuesday: After challenging the Pharisees, Jesus returned to the Mount of Olives with His disciples and taught them about faith. Matthew 21:23–24:51, Mark 11:20–13:37, Luke 20:1–21:36, and John 12:20–38

Spy or Silent Wednesday: Jesus and His disciples rested in Bethany, probably with Lazarus’ family. Meanwhile Judas negotiated with religious leaders for a price to betray Jesus. Luke 21:37 – 22:6, Zechariah 11:12; Lazarus being raised from the dead – John 11:1-57

Maundy Thursday: Jesus celebrated the Passover with His disciples in the Last Supper where He instructed them in Communion and washing each other’s feet. Then they went to the Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus prayed in anguish and was betrayed by Judas. Matthew 26:17–75, Mark 14:12-72, Luke 22:7-62, and John 13:1-38

Good Friday: Jesus was tried, beaten, and crucified for our sins. Afterwards He was buried in a borrowed tomb. Matthew 27:1-62, Mark 15:1-47, Luke 22:63-23:56, and John 18:28-19:37, Isaiah 53, Isaiah 50:6, Psalm 22:1-5, Psalm 69:21

Saturday: Jesus spent Saturday in the borrowed tomb. Matthew 27:62-66, Mark 16:1, Luke 23:56, and John 19:40

Easter or Resurrection Sunday: He is Risen. He is Risen indeed. Matthew 28:1-13, Mark 16:1-14, Luke 24:1-49, and John 20:1-23, Matthew 16:21, John 2:19, Matthew 17:22,23, 20:17-1, 26:32, John 10:17,18, Romans 10:9, 1 Thessalonians 4:14
